The Storyteller and The Healer

About Me

I have been in private practice since 1988 as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My early education and training was in understanding the interactions of individuals within the family. While I was fascinated by the insight into the family unit, I felt compelled to deepen my knowledge of the individual. I continued my education and training and received my Ph.D. in Psychoanalysis in 1997.

I believe that many of our interests are formed through our life's experiences.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1991. After completing my treatment, it seemed natural to reach out to others dealing with chronic health conditions and end of life issues.

As a gay woman, who came out later in life, I know what it is like to be entrenched in the closet. In my novel, Flowers from Iraq: The Storyteller and The Healer, I explore the pain from hiding ones identity, and the healing that comes from love and acceptance.

As I write about my life's Reflections on The Storyteller and The Healer blog,  I hope they become a spark for you to reflect on your life—writing, relationships, dreams...
If you are a writer and have a question about some psychological aspect of your character Contact Me. I'll select questions that have a broad appeal and respond to them on this blog.

My goal is to offer my experience as a person who has traveled on many journeys to arrive at this place in time, with you.

Wishing you the best,

Sunny Alexander
